Composite panels; Final Installation

20120321

These panels were designed to cover a service riser  in the staircase of a 7 stories office building along its stores up to the roof. The panels also can be used as partitions in different positions regarding their light weight and dry construction method.
The panel shape is based on Voronoi pattern and grasshopper Rhino plug-in and implemented on 50 ×50 frames. The main scheme has a dimension of 100×50. It has been divided into two 50×50 modules, later. These modules can be generalized to higher dimensions both in length and width. so a complex form can be made from original simple elements.
Two true scale samples have been carved out of gypsum blocks by CNC and molded by silicone resin. Sequent samples will be molded by light weight foam concrete. Adding different color and texture is also possible by changing ingredients. 300 panels have been made by this method.

KERMAN RESPONSIVE FACADE

20110908

Towards an Affordable and Practical Responsive Architecture
At last and after 18 months of working; we have just started assembling the modules of the project.
While reflecting the highly developing technological conditions of our time and responding to environmental changes to adapt itself with its context; a Responsive Architectural product must at last be affordable enough to be made everywhere even in developing countries.
There are two main reasons that make this field of architecture to be captive in research Lab and showrooms. First of all, many of the Architecture projects which are called Responsive are only aesthetic creations rather than functional ones. The other cause of this state is that the integration of mechanics, electronics, computation, digital fabrication techniques (especially CNC machines) and generative-parametric ideas increases the final price of this technology-dependent act.
This project demonstrates the possibility of making a Real Responsive Project in Kerman - located on a high margin of Lut Desert in the central south of Iran- regarding to practical and cost-effective factors through describing a recently built project. An ordinary unfinished official building was the context of the project. The team started gathering both aesthetic and practical concepts together. By means of simplifying parametric computations and technical processes, a façade was reached which reacts to environmental and human changes. It reconfigures its shape and controls inner light and heat and also the appearance of the building. Considering durability, simplicity and cost-effective manners; it reflects both a holistic concept for environmental design and aesthetic ideas.

Resto, A Luxury Skin façade

20110428

In order to create an attractive façade for a luxury restaurant in a wealthy quarter of Teheran which is to arouse well the passengers’ attention, an integrated surface has been considered which its overall curvature leads the eyes toward the building entrance.
To have a charming look, the façade was thought in a way that seems simple yet complicated, so two modules were adopted to form the whole skin. The modules are designed in a way that each completes the other and as a result they all form a unified composition.
To create the modules and also to panelize them on the whole surface of the skin, two       Grasshopper definitions were written. The Delaunay diagram was selected to produce an organic pattern which is enough mysterious and to recall the natural forms.| Posted by: AmirAli Amirakbari

The Green Cube (a building extension in switzerland)

20110423

The initial design for a building extension includes ideas for enlarging the ground floor space of an existing residential building belonging to Iranian embassy in Switzerland. This floor along with its future extension will be used for different gatherings and celebrations. Due to the owner considerations this building should be fabricated in Iran and installed in target place.
Material selection and construction detail for minimizing the physical change in existing circumstance and the maximum speed of construction are the main achievements of architectural design. Transparent skins with the ability to control day light, translucent roof and a false floor which located on the floor of the courtyard will form this extremely minimal mass. The contrast between existing building and the extension as well as the transparency of new building have been chosen as designer’s solutions for dealing the subject of extension and adjacency to a classic building.| Posted by: AmirAli Amirakbari

The Sun-House

20110328

In most cases, the main and first challenge of design is how to meet all client`s requests and simultaneously achieve all the standards and of course designer`s wishes and creative ideas. In Sun-House project the client interest on how to divide total building area between apartments, separation and independence of apartment’s access as well as adherence to design principles of a residential building has been the major concerns of architectural design.
The site of the project which is located in central district of Tehran with an area of about 300 squar has car and pedestrian access from two sides and entrance to lower floor is possible from courtyard. The three of its four sides are free for getting day light inside. The rate between free areas of facade for openings and the total area of apartments helps designer to remove the internal patio and let plan get shape easier.
The initial design alternatives include the combination of apartments with large, medium and small apartments for residential and official use. These apartments have been designed in one, two or even in some cases three stories due to each alternative circumstances and sometimes has stairs inside private spaces. Besides, despite having a central staircase between floors, sometimes one apartment has separate access from street, from street level or through a separate staircase to the higher levels. The roof is a place for gathering, playing, having fun and gardening.
Each apartment has separate identity from outside through distinction of materials and dominant division of main volumes. The main purpose of processing the alternatives was to achieve independent Homes within the rules of a conventional building.| Posted by: AmirAli Amirakbari

Sfarayen Sport Hall

the traditional athletic background
Having a standard sport hall for indoor sports, which includes standard and enough facilities for training, competitions, and short term sport camping,is essential for a city like Esfarayen according to its traditional athletic background.

This sport hall with a capacity of 2000 spectators includes a standard court for futsal and basketball, upporting facilities for spectators and athletes, and athletes’ dormitory for each team separately.
The shapeless site of the project is located on a hill overlooking to Esfarayen. Because of the limitation of site dimensions, the external edge of building and external edge of sport hall considered the same. And all supporting facilities of sport hall were included in the spaces under spectators’ seats.
In design of this project, it is tried to integrate roof, walls and floors by way of combining some structural systems with additional structures. The restaurant located in the entry of the building is constructed with the same material and method used in hall’s roof in order to achieve the integrity trend of the design. The scheme of structure was designed by parametric techniques in rhinoceros software.
In addition, the site characteristics, the shape of the sections, the functions, compound structural system and installation systems have been organized in a manner to achieve integrity in shape and to meet all users’ requirements. | Posted by: AmirAli Amirakbari

Canopy, Pre-final shape

20110209

It seems that we have finally achieved the shape of our Parametric Canopy. As we described before in some of past blog posts we started studying the form through a parametric approach and it came to conclusion as this spiral form which has aesthetic values and at the same time it is self-similar stable. Each triangle is an independent and stable structural component and the whole element together will shape the form and works as an integrated system. The final stage - the construction of a 1:1 model -  is ongoing now . | Posted by: AmirAli Amirakbari

The canopy will cover a pool and makes a gathering place for the Client and his family

Pergola as a set of hexagons
Carbon tries to create a free form pergola that is to situate in a residential garden. Among the bush it would prepare a semi-open cozy space for the family. It must be considered that the pergola is to be over an existing round pool which had been built by the father of the family before. So the whole subject is completely an issue of their familial memory. Carbon has developed several ideas to achieve a suitable one. Here are presented some of those. |Posted by Maryam Mirsoltani
